During this time of change on our world, many things are evolving. We’re learning more about the universe and how to participate more consciously in the construction of a spiritually-based culture. One of the most significant changes we are undergoing is redefining who we are as children of God, and being able to see ourselves more from the divine perspective, as opposed to viewing who we think we are from the understanding our belief systems impose. We are making a big transition here. It necessitates shifting the definition of ourselves to something more wholistic and unified.
Currently, the idea of ego has been a big topic in spiritual growth. What is it and how do we overcome it? Is the concept of the ego really the true concept of self? Or, is it based on a psychological construct spawned in an environment of human thought—one we’ve been conditioned to accept as the norm; one which, lacking a better idea, we don’t question.
We must remember that often scientific theories are taken as fact. In reality, they simply reflect the current understanding. Someone came up with a concept that seems to make sense, and it stuck. The concept of "ego" was developed in an attempt to understand human nature. It has become a definition well embedded into our lexicon. We accept this definition of self, and in order to understand its meaning, more theories are developed to flesh out its significance. Theories upon theories are developed, adding to the complexity of our thinking process. Trying to sort this out, in terms of what it means to us in our spiritual growth, has become difficult and confusing.
Just because this word “ego” is used to define what constitutes the self, it does not complete our understanding. It may be helpful to consider another conceptual frame of reference to understand who we are in the fullness of our humanity. Thus, I would like to offer another definition of self... one that is less complex and easier to integrate into your self-perception. It may also add to the value of perceiving yourself as a child of God.
To start, I wish to define the term “Self" as the gift of personality given to us as evolving humans—the evolutionary nature we begin with as children. The term "Soul" is our evolving Godly nature. This growing recognition of our spiritual nature accrues over time as the Indwelling Spirit of God up-shifts how we think and feel to more positive and divine ideals of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. Thus, the two—Self and Soul—are in a dance. The Self is designed to open and grow the Soul through daily life experience, making decisions of a positive nature that reveal the way of Love in the world.
The Self has an innate desire to evolve the Soul through experience, and the Soul expression is that of the higher nature. The Indwelling Spirit of God acts as the means to help the Self perceive divine guidance and insight, which in turn, helps the Soul express one's creative and spiritual nature to the world. The Self is good, beautiful, and true because it was created by God, even though a person's self-concept may be negative. Nevertheless, the Self is a part of God and was created to evolve into the Soul—the reflection of Godliness in the world.
The Self is also a person's unique, creative personality expression of the nature of God; an expression of one aspect of the overall, universal divine plan. The Soul is the higher personal expression and the entity that acts to inspire and entice the human natures into conscious co-creation with the Spirit of God. Both are necessary to become a unified whole: humanity and divinity conjoined.
Now using these two definitions, we must look at how our minds are designed by Spirit to become conscious and self-willed. We know that we only use a portion of our intellectual potential. We could say that our consciousness has a bandwidth greater than our perception. Yet through our inner strivings, we can grow in awareness of those portions of consciousness known as sub- and super-consciousness. Here is where our perception opens, if we are willing to go within and look at those influences which have wounded us or inspire us.
It is not something that happens all at once, but we can expand our awareness through patience and trust that the Indwelling Spirit opens the door of ourselves to see what we are made of. A lot of sadness is contained within our mind-body system of consciousness. It takes a courageous, open heart and mind, with Spirit's help, to be willing to see the stuff of which we are made. Yet it is entirely possible to become aware of the depth of our selves. Our Spirits are thus enabled to guide us through the long, evolutionary history of who we are as children of God and grow our higher Soul nature.
Our consciousness is influenced by spiritual circuits that connect universe information into the various levels of our mind-body systems. We are hard-wired for Spirit reception. This continuum sends certain bio-electro-chemical signals through the various systems of our bodies, encoding tons of information into various memory receptors both in and outside of our beings.
Layered into our memory patterns are ancestral memories, coded into the genes we inherit. This affects our behavior in ways we are not consciously aware of, sometimes feeding us with information of being unworthy, unloved, shamed, etc. These are the influences rooted in the rebellion (the planetary event that took us away from following the divine plan of evolution) and have established long, threaded codes of information within our genes. These influences could be considered to be superimposed over the purity of our personalities. They impede the self from perceiving who we really are as children of God. Yet the Soul yearns for the union with Self and for the Self to be perceived as good, beautiful and true.
Even though we carry excess emotional baggage from years of living on a world that has strayed from the divine path of evolution, we are worthy and acceptable children of God just as we are. We have a right to exist, and we have a birthright to love ourselves the way our Creator loves us. When we imprint upon the divine masculine and feminine attributes of Spirit, the long-encoded memories of the past can be healed.
These deep and old genetic influences are being outworked during this phase of planetary change. This is addressed during the Generational Healing transformational process. Generational Healing repairs the various influences containing emotions of unworthiness. The self may perceive these more clearly from the spiritual level, giving the Indwelling Spirit the opportunity to move a person into Soul expression and development.
Perhaps looking at Soul and Self in this simplified posture will provide you with more clarity in understanding who you are and how you can move your self-concept into Soul Awareness. The more you love and accept yourself, the more opportunities you give your Indwelling Spirit to inlay the spiritual energies you need to transition into a higher way of perceiving yourself and living more fully from that place each day. This will also simplify your thinking and help you become more heart-centered and love-dominated, trusting in Spirit to guide you forward into the mighty evolutionary process of growing and living your higher, God-given nature—your Soul.
